Additional food and senior services
In addition to school meal sites, Three Square Food Bank has set up 43 emergency food distribution sites across Southern Nevada. Three Square has temporarily suspended normal food distribution to any agency partners that are not on the emergency distribution list.
The non-profit also has services available for seniors. Between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, anyone in Southern Nevada over the age of 60 can speak to an advocate at (702) 765-4030 to help determine what services are available to help them access food.
Smith’s food and drug stores are also offering special
shopping hours for seniors. On Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 7:00 a.m.
to 8:00 a.m., stores will be open only to seniors, allowing them to avoid
busier shopping times.
Additionally, Smith’s is waiving the pick-up fee for
curbside pickup online orders for customers who are over 60 years of age. The
fee waiver will last through April 18, 2020.
Smith’s will continue its temporary store hours of 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. for all other customers until further notice and are evaluating the option of extending pharmacy hours for seniors.
These stores are also offering accommodations to seniors:
Target: Senior hour Wednesdays,  8:00 a.m.- 9:00 a.m.
Dollar General: Senior hour every day, 8:00 a.m.- 9:00 a.m.

Online filing for welfare services
Nevadans may apply for welfare services through the Department of Health and Human Services’ Division of Welfare and Supportive Services which provides food assistance (SNAP and WIC) cash assistance (TANF), medical and child care assistance through Access Nevada or by calling (702) 486-1646 for Southern Nevada offices; (775) 684-7200 for Northern Nevada offices to be connected with a representative. Automated voice instructions are provided in both English and Spanish.
Those who can access a computer and the internet may apply through the department’s Access Nevada portal, which has English and Spanish modes and downloadable guides on how to use the online portal in both languages.
After providing basic identifying information, the applicant can indicate whether they speak English. If they select “no,” the system will ask whether they need an interpreter and provide 13 language options as well as “other.”
If the applicant would like to add someone 18 years of age or older to apply for benefits or act on their behalf, they have the option to add an authorized representative.
The portal allows the user to check which services they qualify for, by entering information about their household:
Type of housing (homeless, public, subsidized, etc.)
Rent or mortgage and child care expenses
Combined total income and resources including vehicles, insurance, retirement, property and other assets
Age of household members and whether they are disabled or pregnant
Citizenship status
Based on the information provided, a matrix will come up telling the user which programs each household member qualifies for: cash, medical, food, WIC or child care. The user will then be redirected to a page that invites them to check the boxes of programs they want to apply for and begin their applications, which also can be submitted through the portal.
Applications can be saved if the applicant cannot complete it in one sitting. The Access Nevada portal also allows the user to communicate with the Department of Welfare and Social Services with messaging and a To-Do list.

Public benefits for non-citizens
Ineligible non-citizens who do not meet citizenship eligibility criteria may qualify for some limited Medicaid coverage. These applicants must meet all other eligibility requirements except for citizenship. Non-citizens are ineligible for all other benefits.
Applicants are required to provide information about the citizenship or immigration status for all persons who are applying for assistance. Qualified non-citizen status is verified with the United States Citizenship and Immigration Service (USCIS) for eligibility purposes. Information on non-applicants or non-citizens will not be shared with USCIS.
Failure to provide citizenship or immigration status information will render the individual applicant ineligible for benefits. Other family or household members may still receive benefits if they are otherwise eligible.

Free dental care for children whose parents have been laid off
Dr. Steven DeLisle, a pediatric dentist in Las Vegas, said that Children’s Dentistry of Las Vegas is now offering free dental care for Southern Nevada children whose parents have been laid off because of the coronavirus pandemic. Children’s Dentistry has nine offices spread throughout the Las Vegas Valley and Pahrump.
DeLisle said that parents wishing to schedule services should call (702) 99-TOOTH (998-6684) to be routed to the closest office to their home.

Online filing for unemployment benefits
Nevadans can file unemployment insurance claims online 24 hours a day.
There are online video tutorials available in English and in Spanish to help users create accounts and begin filing claims.
Additionally, the Nevada Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation (DETR) have extended the hour of their unemployment lines to 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday. These lines can be reached at:
